The main town of Jávea is comprised of three separate areas; the Old Town, the Port and the Arenal. Although over the years these areas have grown closer together through development and new roads the areas are still distinct in not only location but in lifestyle and type of property available.
These areas do not take into consideration the major urbanisations of Tosalet, Balcon Al Mar, La Lluca, Les Fonts or La Plana but are more related to living within the town. When looking for property for sale in Javea it is a great idea to understand how the homes and lifestyle can vary depending on where you look.
The Old Town
Javea old town is the oldest of the three areas. It has narrow streets that have recently undergone a rejuvenation process. This area is home to the weekly market and it is a centre for the administrative buildings in the town. In the centre of the closely populated town is the church of San Bartolome, a fortified church that used to protect the residents during medieval pirate attacks.
The history and lifestyle of the old town is more of a traditional Spanish style. The properties for sale range from old townhouses with narrow passageways and roof terraces to more modern apartments. It is not uncommon for the townhouses to have central courtyards for relaxing during the summer months and views from the roof terraces to the Montgó.
The Port
The port area is home to whitewashed houses next to the sea. This area is halfway between the traditional old town and the more tourist centric Arenal. Shops, restaurants and local businesses create a buzzing community atmosphere that does not depend on the Summer influx of tourism.
The main port was originally the life source for the town and helped to maintain the local communities. Adjacent to the port is a blue flag rated pebble beach which is popular with many locals.
The port is home to another of Jávea’s churches, the church of our Lady of Loreto. The patron saint of the sea and with the roof decorated like the hull of a boat it is easy to see why this is commonly referred to as the fisherman’s church.
Property for sale in this area of Javea are mainly apartments but several fisherman’s cottages have been available recently. Luxury villas adorn the mountainside above the port but these would fall outside of the area we have defined.
The Arenal
The Arenal is a blue flag beach with an adjacent promenade. Bars, resturants and shops make this the most popular area for tourists to visit and during the Summer months it can seem as though the population has 2, 3, 4 times the size it was in this part of Jávea.
In the Summer evenings the promenade is full of tourists strolling up and down, looking at the many stalls that offer homemade crafts, art and jewellery. The bars cater to the tourism industry and with late night licenses this is an area to be enjoyed at all hours.
The water in the bay is very shallow, it is sheltered and the man-made beach offers an idyllic setting.
Properties in the Arenal area are mainly apartments with several houses located close by. The houses are highly sought after and with an incredible rental potential, all property in this area is a prized possession.
