What Is The Montgó?

The Montgó Massif is a mountain placed between the neighbouring towns of Javea and Denia, in the Marina Alta. It stands 752 metres tall and offers sheltered to the bay of Javea, contributing to the wonderful climate offered by the town. Composed mainly of limestone the mountain is the final peek in the “Cordillera Prebética” mountain range. It is characterised by many as the elephant due to the large cave in the “head” area of the mountain and a long trunk known as La Plana that stretches to the sea by the Cabo De San Antonio.

When visiting Javea or Denia it is very common for tourists and local who have already bought property in Javea to climb the Montgó. There are many walking routes and hiking trails that will take you to some incredible viewing points and to the summit, roughly a 4 hour ascent. This is a great way to pass the day but not recommended during the summer months as the heat can be too much during the middle of the day.

Which Areas Are Classed As Montgó?

As the Montgó Massif is such a large part of the town to the North of Javea many housing areas are classed as properties on the Montgó. These can be in different towns even with may Denia and Jesus Pobre properties also being classed as part of this catchment area.
